Last One Standing - Episode 5

Lap Yin and Pui Ka (Carmen) visit Sing Hei. Pui Ka informed him that she has found him a job at a convinience store. The store owner does not mind Sing Hei's past. Sing Hei was reluctant to accept to job at first but after much persuasion from Pui Ka and Lap Yin, he relented.

Grandma found out that Leng Ma opened a joint account with Lap Yin. Grandma was upset as she has repeatedly told Leng Ma and Fei Ba not to open any joint account with Lap Yin. Lap Yin was adopted from an orphanage when he was about 6 years old. Although Lap Yin has been in their family for all these years, Grandma still treats Lap Yin as an outsider. Grandma is adamant that Leng Ma and Fei Ba will live to regret this day.

Pui Ka visits Lap Yin's family and bought gifts for Grandma and Leng Ma as it is approaching Mother's Day. They bought a pillow for Grandma. Afraid that Grandma might not like the pillow if she knows that Lap Yin bought it, Pui Ka told Grandma that the pillow gift was from her. Grandma was happy and liked it. Later on she reveal to Grandma that the pillow was chosen by Lap Yin. Grandma immediately turned down the gift, saying that it's not suitable for her.

After dinner, Pui Ka and Lap Yin visit Sing Hei at his new work place. Lap Yin told him that as long as he the determination, he will slowly ease back into society with no problems. Even his boss praised him for being a good employee.

The bank nearby their house is planning to relocate, so Kit Yee has to temporary take all her things from the safe deposit box home. Most of the stuff inside the box belonged to Tse Leung. Sing Hei checks through all the documents. Sing Hei found that that Tse Leung had received a letter from an insurance company but the letter was not addressed to him.

Sing Hei went to the address to investigate. The address was a leather factory. The company had closed down for almost 10 years. It appears that the owner had bought insurance for his company which was destroyed by fire. Coincidentally, the insurance firm is where Lap Yin used to work.

Pui Ka needs to interview an ex-prisoner for her latest project. She approached Sing Hei to ask if he has friends that he can introduce to her. He offered himself to be Pui Ka's interview subject.

Sing Hei saw Dai Kao who is his friend from his childhood. He asked Dai Gao about the leather company that bought insurance from the firm Dai Gao and Lap Yin used to work. The fire incident case was handled by Lap Yin. Sing Hei was suspicious of the link between Tse Leung, the Leather Company and Lap Yin. He asked Keen Yip to investigate.

Kit Yee suspects that Sing Hei has romantic feelings towards Pui Ka. She warned him to repress his feelings and not make any advances.

Hoi Man went to Sing Hei's convenient store to look for him. She invited Sing Hei to their house for dinner. She claimed it was Grandma who wants to see Sing Hei. Sing Hei agreed to visit Grandma the next day when Lap Yin and Hoi Man are both at work. During dinner Pui Ka invites everyone to her house for barbeque.

Viewers file complaint against Last One Standing

Last One Standing, which stars TVB heart-throb Kevin Cheng and Roger Kwok, is deemed unsuitable for children. TVB received a total of 15 complaints since the series was aired on September 22. In the first episode alone, there was a gory scene of Roger drenched in dog's blood, street fights and fire.

Most of the complaints were about the unsuitable graphic portrayed in the series especially if the viewers are children. TVB clarified that the series is suppose to "bring excitement and intense feeling for viewers." As such, Last One Standing is broadcast during the 9pm time slot which is usually not used by "family shows". This series requires Parental Guidance.

Last One Standing - Episode 4

Sing Hei has since moved back home but there's no improvement in his relationship with Kit Yee. He also attempted to look for a job but is reluctant to reveal that he spent 10 years in jail.

Sing Hei saw Pui Ka on the streets. He remembered her from his prison days. She was a social worker who approached him many times for counseling and interviews when he was in prison. Everytime Pui Ka visits Sing Hei in prison, she's the only one talking. Sing Hei doesn't talk or respond. Eventually one day he asked her why does she visit him. Her reply was she likes to help the inmates. Chatting with the inmates is a form of counseling and can help them to reduce stress.

It appears that Pui Ka is now an established news reporter. When Sing Hei was in prison, he told Pui Ka of his innocence and she believed him. She did not treat him with prejudice and he's grateful to her for that. Each meeting with Pui Ka brought hope for Sing Hei.

Sing Hei met Pui Ka for real outside her office. Pui Ka apologise to Sing Hei as she left for her studies in US without telling him. She also reassure Sing Hei that she treats him as a friend! Sing Hei says she is his only friend.

Filled with hope after his chat with Pui Ka, Sing Hei was ready to let go of the past, when he suddenly saw Keen Yip's company logo on his furniture. He asked Kit Yee if the furniture in the house come from Keen Yip's company and Kit Yee said yes. Even the furniture in Tse Leung house is also from Keen Yip's company.

Sing Hei is confused by Lap Yin's analysis. If the company logo are on all furniture, it doesn't proof that Keen Yip went to Tse Leung's house and dropped his keychain. Sing Hei realised that Lap Yin may have something to hide.

To probe further, Sing Hei went looking for Keen Yip at his congressman office. There he saw a China woman who asked Keen Yip for help but was turned away by Keen Yip. Sing Hei spoke to her and realised that she was with Keen Yip the night Tse Leung was murdered. Therefore, there's no way for Keen Yip to have killed Tse Leung! After talking with her, Sing Hei realised that Lap Yin had actually approached and questioned this woman before.

Sing Hei sent a "thank you" card to Pui Ka and asked her out. Pui Ka brought Sing Hei to church. She told him that it's good to have faith. She also introduced her boyfriend to Sing Hei - it turned out to be Lap Yin!

Roger Kwok named his biggest challenger

Roger Kwok, the star of Last One Standing, was at Olympic City recently for "Baby Impact 100% Fun Fun Show". Reporters were quick to quiz him about the upcoming TVB Awards. He shared that the list of nominees will be out soon. Roger is quite sure that he is one of the nominees for Best Actor, but is also wary of the challenge from Raymond Lam, whom he named "the strongest contestant".

Roger said, "Raymond has done well this year, in particular in Moonlight Resonance and The Four. The ratings has been high."

Reporters asked Roger if he mind letting the younger artists win this year as he had won the award before, he replied, "It is not up to me to say. I was given the chance to compete this year. It is up to TVB. If I get it, I would be honored."

The Gem of Life airs October 20

TVB's mega production, The Gems of Life, which has fans anticipating it for the longest time will air on October 20th. Boasting a stellar cast and stretching over 80 episodes, The Gems of Life is set to trill tv viewers.

The cast of Gems who appeared at the press conference include Ada Choi, Maggie Siu, Gigi Lai (who play 3 sisters), Bosco Wong, Moses Chan and Linda Chung (who coincidentally were also in Moonlight Resonance).

Ada Choi was questioned by reporters about her mainland series which will be broadcast by TVB rival, ATV soon. Ada shared that everytime she filmed a mainland series, she will get clearance from TVB first to put all parties at ease. She also stressed that no one can control if the mainland series will air on which channel. Ada also explained that prior to filming, she has made it clear that if the series was sold to i-Cable, Channel Now or ATV, she will not participate in any promotion activities.

Last One Standing - Episode 3

Episode 3 picks up from where it ends in episode 2 - Sing Hei tried to run Lap Yin down. But as Hoi Mun had already warned Lap Yin, he anticipated the arrival of Sing Hei car, thus, he was able to jumped on the car and avoid being hit.

After the car crashed into some barrier, Sing Hei grabbed hold of Lap Yin and the two of them struggled. In the midst of struggling, Lap Yin told Sing Hei that he has new evidence that may proof Sing Hei's innocence. Lap Yin show Sing Hei a photograph with Keen Yip's company logo on it. And from what Cheung See told Lap Yin, Sing Hei then realised that Keen Yip had indeed met Tse Leung before his death.

Sing Hei confronted Cheung See and asked her about her keychain and how it could appear at the crime scene. Sing Hei questioned her if she told Keen Yip about her rape and where was Keen Yip on the night Tse leung was killed. Cheung See think back and realised that Keen Yip could have been the murderer as she did tell him that Tse leung had raped her. However, she lied to Sing Hei and said that keen Yip doesn't know anything.

Sing Hei went to questioned Keen Yip but Keen Yip told nearby policement that Sing Hei is a murder suspect. The police then asked Lap Yin to identify his kidnapper from a line up. Lap Yin told the police that he was at the cliff with Sing Hei and they had an argument. But Sing Hei has no intention of killing him. He fell into the sea and Sing Hei wanted to save him but he also end up falling into the sea. As the police had no evidence, the charges against Sing Hei was dropped.

Cheung See grilled Keen Yip about his whereabouts on the night of Tse Leung's murder, but he told her not to talked about that night again. Keen Yip threaten that if he reveal the truth, the family will be torn apart, the price to pay is too huge.

Sing Hei discussed the sequence of events of the night of the murder with Lap Yin. Lap Yin made some assumptions and they tried to put the missing pieces together and finally realised that there's a big pissibility that Keen Yip could indeed be the murderer.

Cheung See also suspects that Keen Yip is the real murderer and confessed to Sing Hei. She begged Sing Hei not to tell the police this information. She begged him not to find Keen Yip for revenge.

Cheung See went to look for Sing Hei but he was thrown out of his rented place. She panicked and called her mother but Kit Yee also doesn't know the whereabouts of Sing Hei. She called Lap Yin and asked for his help to locate Sing Hei.

Kit Yee saw her son sitting under a bridge and told him that Cheung See was looking for him. Sing Hei ignored her and walked away. Kit Yee went to look for Lap Yin and asked for his assistance to console Sing Hei. Lap Yin remembered that whenever Sing Hei is upset, he likes to go to the rooftop to watch aeroplanes.

Lap Yin told Sing Hei that all problems will have their solutions. He advised Sing Hei to have a better outlook on life, to give himself a fresh start in life. Lap Yin brought Sing Hei back to the house he used to share with Kit Yee. Lap Yin also showed him his room, everything was the same as they were 10 years ago.

Raymond Lam, taking the music route

Raymond Lam has certainly come a long way, from acting in secondary roles to helming leading roles in TVB's mega productions. Now Raymond is out to silence critics - aside from being a succesful actor, he's just as good singing. Last year he released his debut album, vaguely translated as "Fond of Searching For You in Memories". Now a year later, he has just released his second album, Your Love.

Although Raymond is busy filming series, he spends just as much time working on his second album, rest assured that there's no compromise in quality. This time around, the album features more music styles and variations although it still caries the same theme from the first album, love. Raymond said, "This time there will be different ways of performing, I discovered that I have a few different voices, actually I can sing like this. Additionally there are other new attempts, for example the first time singing a duet with Vincy Chan. Plus there are more fast tempo songs. In the past I thought it’s difficult to sing R & B in Cantonese, this time there is a little bit of R&B + Pop style, and it turned out pretty good. Also, this time I’ll sing a Mandarin song, it is my first time. In the future there’ll be more added, but at the moment Cantonese songs are the main priority."

Recording for Your Love did not begin until Raymond has finished filming Moonlight Resonance. With his schedules so packed, rest is definitely a luxury for Raymond but this hardworking man will listen to demos and select songs for his album during breaks from filming. Raymond shares that his favourite place is his house, but ironically, it's where he spends the least of his time. The most important element in the house is his bed. "It’s used for resting, it needs to be big and comfortable. My bed takes up 1/3 of my room," says Raymond.

Raymond admits that filming a series and singing have their own difficulties. Although it takes a longer time to film a series, you are allowed to make mistakes as you can have NG scenes, but when it comes to singing, mistakes are kept to a minimal level, as such the pressures are greater. It's also a plus for Raymond that TVB and his recording company, EEG are coordinating and working together so that he has to freedom to develop his talents.

Raymond is focused and shares his goals for the future, "For singing, I hope later on I will have dance songs. For acting, everyone wants to win awards because this is evidence of a person’s hard work. Plus it is a memorable item. But I hope I will only win after everyone accepts me. If I win but is not accepted by the majority, then definitely don’t give it to me.”

Moonlight Resonance - Episode 16

Sa Yee finally revealed the reason she keep pushing them to work at Ka Ho Yuet Yuen. It's because she needed money. She had invested in real estate and the bank is chasing her for payments but she has problems selling the units she had bought. She needed cash money. Hing told Sa Yee that is her problem no connection with them. Sa Yee said that; their money is Hor Ma's money. Hor Ma's money is Tat Suk's money. And Tat Suk's money is her money. hence the connection. Of course, everyone does not agree with her ridiculous theory!

Sa Yee called Grandma out for tea. Sa Yee told Grandma that Hor Ma was the one who is stopping them from returning to Ka Ho Yuet Yuen. Sa Yee told Grandma to try to persuade Hor Ma by trying to do the things she likes. She told Grandma to organise a birthday celebration for Hor Ma as her birthday is coming soon. Grandma asked Sa Yee to organise and if she is successful in making the children return, Grandma will give Sa Yee some reward. Yan Hong said that she will make a birthday cake for Hor Ma but asked Sa yee to deliver it.

Sa Yee, Jo Bao and the children surprised Hor Ma with a birthday party. All Hor Ma's old neighbours were invited to attend. Jo Bao secretly paid for the neighbour's travelling expenses. The children, including Jo Bao and Tat Suk, switched roles and entertained Hor Ma. Jo Bao was Hing, Ka was Hor Ma, Yuet was Ka, Chung Zai was Yuet, Hing was Chung Zai, Ho was Sa Yee, Yuen was Ho. Sa Yee then gave a speech about how great Hor Ma is. Hor Ma was touched.

Chau was shopping for a present for Hing when she saw a woman going into labour. She asked the onlookers to clear the way so that she can help the woman deliver. Out of the blue came this other man, who insist that no one move the lady. It turns out that he is Dr Ling, an OBGYN at Chau's hospital. They became friends.

Jo Bao called Hor Ma to ask her to allow the children to work at Ka Ho Yuet Yuen. Hor Ma once again explained that she will not stop the children from working there, but if they ask for her opinion, she is still skeptical over Yan Hong's intentions. Sa Yee take this opportunity to convince the children but it back-fired. None of the children are interested. Sa Yee even called Hor Ma a dictator!

To solve this issue once and for all, Hor Ma went to Ka Ho Yuet Yuen to look for Yan Hong. Yan Hong purposely make Hor Ma wait and called for a meeting which is not urgent. After waiting for a few hours, Hor Ma barge into the meeting room to confront Yan Hong in front of her employees.

Hor Ma warned Yan Hong not to hurt the children for she will protect them with her life. Yan Hong asked Hor Ma not to misunderstand her intentions, all she wants is to give the children better future. Hor Ma knows that Yan Hong's real intention was to create dis-harmony in their family. She doesn't have the intention to give the shares to the children. Hor Ma issue a challenge to Yan Hong: if she is sincere in giving her shares then she wants Yan Hong to go to the lawyer's office immediately and sign the transfer papers! Yan Hong was left speechless!

There are 56 votes in total and 76% of TVB Review's readers are happy with Moonlight Resonance. This is also my poll answer as I think the series did well, in terms of storyline, casting, setting, production and the pace. I'm looking forward to more TVB drama's that is comparable to this.

Moonlight Resonance - Episode 15

Jo Bao's vision was affected after he got knocked down by a car. He was in shocked and frightened that he will lose his vision. He keep calling out for Hor Ma. Grandma suggest that Hor Ma accompany Jo Bao to the hospital in the ambulance. Yan Hong was also in the ambulance but Jo Bao keep calling out for Hor Ma.

Jo Bao needs to undergo surgery to correct his vision. Yan Hong saw that Jo Bao had a good time with Hor Ma and the children, she was visibly upset. Yan Hong had a talk with Jo Bao, she confessed that she went to China to test Jo Bao to see if he would visit Hor Ma in her absence. Jo Bao also reveal the his inner thoughts to her. He told her that there's no feelings between him and Hor Ma. The reason he goes over so often is because of the atmosphere there - happier and livelier.

Yan Hong decided to travel the world with Jo Bao. She also intends to pass 80% of Ka Ho Yuet Yuen's shares to the six children. The children isn't interested and suspect that Yan Hong is up to her tricks again. Sa Yee, who's constantly blinded by money, keeps convincing the children to accept what is rightfully theirs. Hor Ma told the children to make their own decision, but if they ask for her opinion, she's skeptical about Yan Hong's intentions.

Yan Hong reveal to Grandma that she wants to travel with Jo Bao because she is afraid of losing Jo Bao to Hor Ma. She said the most important thing for her are the children and husband. Grandma assures her that should anything happen, Grandma will be on her side.

Yan Hong called Ka out to discuss Ka Ho Yuet Yuen. She passed him a proposal for their marketing plan. Yan Hong then convince Chung Zai to manage Ka Ho Yuet Yuen's IT department. Both Ka and Chung Zai are seriously considering Yan Hong's suggestions.

Ho met Chau for supper after work. Chau was tired and her eyes were dry because of her contact lens. Ho went out to buy contact lens for Chau as she needs a new pair the next day. The shops nearby do not have Chau's power so they went to another shop further away. Ho asked Sum to wear spectacles instead if her eyes were tired. They both reflect on their childhood days - when Chau first realised that she is short-sighted.
