When Heaven Burns to finally broadcast

TVB new series When Heaven Burns will take over the 9.30pm time slot from Forensic Heroes 3 on November 21. When Heaven Burns completed filming more than 2 years ago but was not broadcast by TVB. It wasn't until now that the two leads, Bowie Lam and Charmaine Sheh have parted ways with TVB that this series slotted for release.

Cast When Heaven Burns TVB

The cast of [WHB], Bowie Lam, Moses Chan and Kenny Wong took part in the promotional event for the series in Kowloon Bay. Lead actress, Charmaine Sheh was noticeably missing as she is filming in China.

Bowie Lam Kenny Wong Moses Chan When Heaven Burns TVB

At the event, the leads formed a band and entertained the audience. They were seen singing, playing the drums as well as electric guitars; just like their characters do in the series.

Bowie explained that he has mentioned many times that he will take part in the promotional activities for the series. "It is not because I don't have a contract with TVB that I won't promote the series. I am an adult, we aren't like that," adds Bowie.

When asked for his oppinion if the series should have been aired earlier, Bowie says that there are many people who anticipated this series, so perhaps it should have been aired earlier. However, Bowie admits that this is TVB's arrangements.

Bowie does not believe that his and Charmaine's departure from TVB has anything to do with the airing of [WHB]. "We never thought about this, why would this be! This is a TV rated series, perhaps the subject matter is a different type," Bowie explains.

Bowie feels that for the cast to be nominated for next year's TVB Anniversary, TVB could broadcast some clips about a month before the anniversary to give audience a refresher of the series.

Kenny Wong shares that he was happy when he heard that [WHB] was to be aired last year, but when it was delayed, he was a little unhappy.

On the other hand, Moses Chan was more philosophical about the broadcast timing of the series. While many are concerned about whether the series can get the awards, but Moses' concern is wheter the series can bring out the "modern romance atmosphere". He explains, "The series is airing now is not because of Bowie and Charmaine. Why would TVB air the series when the two are not here! It is just a matter of timing. Even if the series airs now, I'll still be happy. Although people are unhappy about the broadcast period, we are still filled with confidence."

Wayne Lai turns down TVB management contract

A handful of TVB artistes, who were previously signed under TVB's management contract, are slowly leaving the nest. One high profile example would be TVB's number 1 fadan, Charmaine Sheh.

Wayne Lai

TVB has been negotiating with TV King, Wayne Lai, to also sign a management contract with them but alas it wasn't meant to be. Wayne will continue to work with TVB under the "per series" contract and his wife will remain as his manager.

Recently Wayne attended the Yan Chai Hospital 44th Annual Broad Member Dinner Gathering. He expressed that although he may be busy filming, he will still squeeze out some time for charity work. When reporters told Wayne that there are many TVB artistes leaving, Wayne says there are new talents to fill the void. " It is a fact that series is a help to the newcomers," he adds.

Wayne admits that TVB has been discussing a contract with him, but he prefers a "per series" contract with his wife assisting him. "I've been with TVB for many years, money is not the most important factor. Sometimes it's about the feeling," explains Wayne.

Charmaine Sheh subtly confirms departure from TVB, considering contract on per series basis

Of late the rumours about Charmaine Sheh leaving TVB for greener pastures in China has been spreading like wildfire. After recuperating from her arm injury for about two months, Charmaine attended the Jewels of Italy Show 2011 as an invited guest.

Charmaine Sheh TVB
She took the opprtunity to clear the air about some rumours and concerns fans and viewers have for her. Charmaine revealed that her arm is healing well but she still needs to continue with some physiotheraphy. "I'm alright now. I need to continue arm exercises, but they are quite simple so I can do them at home. I can't film action scenes at the moment," Charmaine explained.

There are numerous rumours that claimed Charmaine had faked her arm injury to avoid filming TVB series Forensic Heroes 3. However the actress denied that. Charmaine hope that critics would stop rubbing salt on her wound as she had already missed out on shooting a "series that would have good ratings". She also adds that due to her injury, she also missed out on other stage events during the lunar new year period and lost a lot of income as a result.

Having been managed by TVB for the last 14 years, Charmaine regards TVB as her maternal home. Charmaine stopped short of fully confirming her departure from TVB but adds that no matter what, TVB will always be her "maternal home". She will maintain a good relationship with TVB as she had grown and matured with TVB for the last 14 years. Should Charmaine leave, she will definitely consider amending her contract with TVB into a "per series" contract.

Charmaine clarifies that money is not to sole factor in her consideration for contract renewal or departure. "It's not about the money," she says. Charmaine also confirms that when her series are aired, she will definitely be involved in the promotional activities.

TVB's Anniversary Awards for 2010 will be help at 8.30pm on December 5th. The battle for TV King and TV Queen is reportedly down to the leads from 2 series, No Regrets and Can't Buy Me Love. [CBML] was aired earlier and received high ratings as well as praises from the viewers while [NR] also managed to garner some praises for having a wonderful story. At the same time, [NR] was heavily promoted during TVB's Anniversary Gala thus boosting its chances at the coming awards.
Charmaine Sheh
It was reported earlier that Charmaine Sheh may not be attending the awards show as she will be working in China. However, the actress may have a change of heart and might be attending the annual awards show. Reporters contacted Charmaine to verify this piece of news. As [CBML] is the highest rated series for 2010, Charmaine said that the Producer of [CBML], Miu Siu Ching should be the happiest.

Charmaine was once again asked about her hopes for the TV Queen award, which she says "I am feeling very normal, I personally don't have any big battle feeling, try my best!" As for whether she will return to HK for the award show, Charmaine explains that her manager is trying to schedule time-off for her from the Chinese film crew. Charmaine adds, "I still have to go back that night because I am part of the nominations and I want to participate too. However, I really don't have time to try out the jewelry and outfit, so will leave everything to my manager!"
Sheren Tang
Sheren Tang was filming an advertisement and was approached by reporters. The finale ratings for [NR] did not manage to break the ratings for [Jewel in the Palace]. Sheren explains that she is not disappointed with the ratings. She reasons that viewers can now re-watch the series online and perhaps that may influence the ratings.

Upon hearing this, Sheren quickly expresses her thanks to the actor, "Really thank him for the support, sometimes when I see him, I would get his advice! I personally have confidence, but the other opponents are very strong too." Sheren also joked that her character, "Kau Ku Leung" is very complicated and tough to portray, thus she may win the "Most Improved Award" as well. She also praised Charmaine for doing well in [CBML].

Felix Wong hailed as the "dark horse" in the TV King battle

The competition for 2010 TVB Anniversary Awards is heating up. The top favourites this year are the duo from Can't Buy Me Love, Moses Chan and Charmaine Sheh battling the duo (and also last year's winning pair) of Wayne Lai and Sheren Tang from No Regrets.

However, Felix Wong is now thrown into the race after being hailed as the dark horse by his co-star from Gun Metal Grey, Michael Miu. Even Moses Chan has praises for Felix and admits that the competition is fierce.

On Monday (October 18), TVB will hold its 43 Annual Lighting Ceremony. At this event the list of nominees for the upcoming Anniversary Awards will also be announced. Many fans and viewers anticipate that the leads from No Regrets, Wayne and Sheren will lead the nomination list and build the momentum leading up to the awards. TVB is heavily promoting No Regrets making the series and its cast a strong contender for the awards.

Nonetheless, Can't Buy Me Love also has its strengths. Although the series has ended its run, it is the highest rated series in 2010 to date. It also stars the winner of 2007's TV King, Moses Chan and 2006's TV Queen, Charmaine Sheh. The strong battle between Can't Buy Me Love and No Regrets reminded viewers and fans of last year's battle between Beyond the Realm of Conscience and Rosy Business.

Producer Lee Tim Sing, who is the producer for No Regrets, openly pledges his support for Wayne and Sheren, pointing out that this award winning duo have a strong chance of taking the awards in two consequtive years! "I saw Charmaine’s performance in Can't Buy Me Love, she has definitely improved a lot, however in terms of acting, it’s hard to compete with Sheren. I think there is a huge chance that this year’s TV King and Queen will be a ‘repeat’ of last year," says Producer Lee.

Producer Nelson Cheung talks about his work

TVB has many producers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and Nelson Cheung is one of them. Nelson has been involved in the industry for over 30 years. Some of Nelson's recent productions include You're Hired and D.I.E.

Producer Nelson Cheung TVB
Since young, Producer Nelson loves to watch comedies. The rapid development of the Hong Kong film industry has given Nelson the opportunity to get into productions and film work. He started his career at ATV in 1979 where he was a PA and subsequently promoted to director 2 years later. In 1985, Producer Nelson moved over to rival station TVB and was promoted to the role of Producer in 1989.

Nelson's productions One Step beyond, Love is Beautiful, Dicey Business as well as D.I.E and You're Hired moves his ahead of his peers and earned him a good reputation in the industry.

Producer Nelson is also adventurous and dares to create different yet interesting roles in his series. Back in 1991, he took a gamble and cast Dicky Cheung and Derek Wan for his comedy One Step Beyond. The gamble paid off when the pairing of Dicky and Derek left memorable impressions in viewers minds. More recently, he took another risk and cast TVB darling, Charmaine Sheh opposite Dayo Wong in You're Hired. This fresh pairing was such a tremendous success that left audiences asking for more.

Dayo Wong You're Hired TVB
Nelson gave credit to Dayo for the success of his partnership with Charmaine. He was full of praise for Dayo, "I really admire Dayo Wong. He is one talented performer and he is very hard working. Every time he does a series, he would do a lot of homework for it. From TV series to stand up comedy, he is the best. He is a very generous person, whatever new ideas he thinks of, he'll definitely share it with others. When filming series, he doesn't know that his acting is good, but he would look after other artistes, getting into character together."

Charmaine Sheh You're Hired TVB
Not forgetting Charmaine's effort and contribution, Nelson also gave her credit, "Charmaine, although she's one of the most popular actresses, but she really uses her heart to act. Not only does she fulfill the producer's requirements well, but many times she would give you many surprises along with it. So Dayo and Charmaine both give off good sparks. I also discovered that Charmaine really does have good comedy acting skills."

Nelson was also asked to comment on the rising crop of fadans and siusangs in TVB. He feels that Kenneth Ma's acting is solid while Tavia Yeung is contantly improving. "Tavia Yeung is like a military worker. Maybe it's because whatever role you give her, she will put all her effort into it for you, I have seen her improving all along."
