Synopsis

Summer Ha is scheduled to film a reality tv show about a young Hong Kong school boy's adventures in a village in China. Summer is known to be meticulous and his PA's come and go very quickly. In his haste, he tires newcomer May Hui as his new PA. During the filming of the reality tv show, the crew managed to witness the transformation of a stubborn and arrogant youth in to a responsible and caring young adult.

The changes in the young boy's life is mirrored in the lives of the tv crew - the relationship between Summer and his biological mother, Siu Lan and his foster mother, Chui Wan; also in May's life who struggles to prove to her father that she is just as capable as her two older brothers; and finally the complicated and intricate handling of Chung Shun's family crisis.

Review

The first five episodes or so were filmed mostly in the village in China. Watching the first five episodes was as though we are getting a very condensed reality tv show from TVB. After that is when the whole drama begins. The reality tv part kind of sets the tone for the series but sometimes I wonder if that part wasn't in the series, the series would do just fine too.

There were 4 major story arcs in the show:
Chui Wan becomes a gambling adict after the sudden death of her husband.
She doesn't know how to live on her own after devoting her entire lifetime to this one man. He was the core of her universe and just suddenly one day, everything went crumbling down. Both her children (Rachael Kan and Owen Cheung) and their other halves refused to help her and were only interested in the money that she could give them. After she gambles everything away, they knew that she has no more money left and asks her to add their names to the house, pretending that they would help with the mortage. The children were afraid that she would pass the house to Summer eventually since he was more filial to her that they were.

Summer - Chui Wan - Siu Han
Summer was abandoned by his biological mother when he was a child. At eight years old, he went to live with Chui Wan and she became his foster mother. He is indebted to her because it was her who taught him the true meaning of family. She took care of him as a mother would, gave him advise, scolded him when he was naughty and nagged at him for not settling down. She was, to him, the perfect mother. Chui Wan tries her best to bring Siu Han back into Summer's life, but Summer was very stubborn and refused. He claimed that Siu Lan has no business coming back into his life again after all she was the one who abandoned him. He has only one mother now.

Chung Shun's family crisis
Chung Shun is a family man. He lives in a government flat with his aged parents, his wife and daughter. Typical story here -  daughter-in-law and parents-in-law don't get along and the poor husband is stuck in the middle. They mostly agrued over petty issues - the grandma cooks really salty dishes, the grandpa (who is bordering deaf) constantly mishears things spoken by the DIL. As though this family in crisis does not have enough on their plate, bring in the gossipy neighbours and you have fll blown drama.

May and her chauvinist father
May ran away from her home in Canada to HK to prove to her father that she can be successful on her own. Her father is the typical male chauvinist. He thinks that women are just suppose to find a good husband and getmarried and settle down. Unfortunately, May does not share his opinion. And to escape an arranged marriage, she packed her bags and came to HK. And she met Summer. he hired her to be his PA.

Ending [Spoiler Alert]

Chui Wan sold off her house and spilts the money between her two useless children and gave some to Summer. She then pack her bags and went to live with Siu Lan. Karma bites back at her two children, with the daughter's husband losing at the stock market and she has to bear all the debts and the son's girlfriend dumping him for another man. Summer eventually took the money that Chui Wan gave him to repay the debts for Chui Wan's daughter.

May managed to help Summer see that Siu Han is a changed person. She does a lot of charity sincerely and hopes to be able to atone for her past mistakes. When Siu Han tries to stop Chui Wan from committing suicide, she slipped and fell into the sea. Summer managed to pull Siu Han out from the sea and the mother and son make amends.

Chung Shun moves out from their family flat and rent a place with his wife and daughter as his wife wished. But they were not happy living on their own. The husband and wife were both too busy with work that their house is constantly in a mess. They argued more and more and even the daughter misses living with the grandparents. Eventually, they move back to the family home and all is well.

May managed to make her father see that she loves what she does. He finally acknowledges that his daughter is capable and realises that she loves him dearly.

Verdict

I would say this series is not bad, there are good moments. Lee Sze Kei was brilliant in her gambling addict role, Ruco Chan was alright. The character is pretty ordinary, not many chances to shine. Watchable if you have time.

I just have to add that oh-em-gee!! I cannot forthelifeofme stand the actress who played Lee Sze Kei's son's girlfriend. Ah Beee, Ah Beeeeeee, Ah Beeeeeeeeeeee. EEEEWWWWW!!!

TVB held a costume fitting ceremony for its new drama series Glamourous Housewives recently. Among the cast who attended the event are Chung King Fai, Lee Si Kei, Fala Chen, Timmy Hung and Christine Ng.

Chung King Fai Lee Si Kei

Lee Si Kei will play Fala's mother and Christine's sister. The drama tells the story about 3 generations of women in a family and their love lives. Lee Si Kei was questioned if playing this character brings back memories of her previous loves. Si Kei replied that her feelings now are numbed. She also denied having "many" love affairs in the past, saying, "Not a lot, I only got married twice. A lot of people married so many times, I don't think so."

Si Kei also shared that she has been feeling tired of late and went for a thorough body check-up. The result of the check-up is very encouraging, she is healthy. Although the report is good, the doctor advises Si Kei to lose some weight. Si Kei shares that she is working hard towards that.

No surprises at TVB 41st Anniversary Awards

The 41st TVB Anniversary Awards was held on Saturday Night. The night's biggest winners were Ha Yu and Michelle Yim who managed to snag the Best Actor and Best Actress Award respectively.

Ha Yu and Michelle Yim TVB 41st Anniversary Awards

In his acceptance speech, Ha Yu said he has waited 40 years for this award. Ha Yu, who was almost in tears, said "I have waited for 40 years. I did a lot of movies and TV series. At last I have achieved what I have always wanted. I need to thank 'Uncle 6' (Sir Run Run Shaw). He has been my boss since I started my acting life." Ha Yu ended his speech with a line borrowed from Sa Yee in Moonlight Resonance - If you say I can make it, I will make it. If you say I can't, then I won't make it!

Michelle Yim said when she accepted the role of Hung Yee, she didn't expect that she would be the most hated woman in all Hong Kong in 2008! But that happened and that also won her the Best Actress Award. Almost in tears, Michelle thanked her boyfriend, Wan Chi Keung, her family and friends for their support. She also expressed her disbelief that she is competing for this award even at her age.

Wayne Lai, who walked the red carpet with Michelle Yim, won the Best Supporting Actor Award. Everyone cheered for Wayne when his name was announced. Wayne has been repeatedly nominated but has failed to win until Saturday night when fortunes were turned.

Tavia Yeung Yi TVB 41st Anniversary Awards

Tavia Yeung, a favourite of viewers for her role as Yuet in Moonlight Resonance, beat veteran Lee Heung Kam for the Best Supporting Actress Award. The first thing Tavia did when accepting her award was to acknowledge Lee Heung Kam and asked the audience to give her a round of applause.

Lee Si Kei, winner of Best Actress in 2007, won the Favourite Female Character award for her role as Hor Ma. Raymond Lam picked up the male version of the same award, Favourite Male Character, for his role as Goon Ga Zai. Raymond also picked up the TVB.Com award for having the most readers to his TVB Blog.

Paul Chun, a TVB veteran was honoured for his work. he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the industry. Paul joked that he was afraid that he would be asked to retire after being given this award. Paul stressed that he loves to act and acting is part and parcel of his life. Ha Yu is confident, shares his take on Best Actress

Ha Yu's portrayal of Jo Bao in Moonlight Resonance has earned him praises from many viewers and netizens. Ha Yu is a nominee for the prestigious Best Actor Award along side his son in the same series, portrayed by Raymond Lam. Ha Yu maintained that he has the right amount of confidence, "Of course I would want to win, but there is no certainty. Seeing the netizens support me is just like half-winning to me already. But really, in this world there are many sudden changes. Last year, I was known to have one of the highest chances as well, but failed in the end. As for this year, it seems like my chances are higher. If I still lose, then it's not related to whether I did a good job or not, but related to the methods and qualifications of voting, and by that I would fee more relaxed. Disappointment is inevitable, but I still have to continue to live on, and continue acting." Ha Yu's online votes has managed to surpass even Raymond's who was the earlier front runner for the sought-after award!

Ha Yu

Ha Yu revealed that it was more difficult to portray Jo Bao compared to playing Dai Bao from Heart of Greed. With Dai Bao, he has the chance to appear comical, whereas with Jo Bao, the character is more serious, who made mistakes and yet refuse to acknowledge them. This makes Ja Bao a deeper character if compared to Dai Bao.

Ha Yu also revealed that the success of Moonlight Resonance has indirectly increased the number of job offers he received. During this coming Christmas season, he and his fellow Moonlight Resonance co-stars - Lee Si Kei, Raymond Lam and Linda Chung will be in the United States and Canada for performances and other jobs.

Seeing that Ha Yu is highly rumoured to pick up the Best Actor Award, whom does he prefer to take the female version, the Best Actress Award. Ha Yu believes that all the ladies of Moonlight Resonance are equally capable. But considering Lee Si Kei picked up the award last year, then Ha Yu felt that Michelle Yim and Susanna Kwan deserve a chance at the awards. But if he has to choose between the two, then his choice would be Michelle Yim. In Ha Yu's opinion Michelle portrayed her evil role well even though she did not have many scenes.

TVB Anniversary Dinner Party

The filming for TVB's Anniversary Dinner Party was held recently. Among those who attended the filming are the cast of Moonlight Resonance - Ha Yu, Raymond Lam, Lee Si Kei and Linda Chung, as well as Sunny Chan, Derek Kwok and Ron Ng.

2008 TVB 41st Anniversary Awards Dinner Party

There were numerous reports of Ha Yu and Raymond Lam not getting along well. However all those negative reports were put to rest when Ha Yu and Raymond was seen joking with each other. They also obliged photographers with many photographs together. Ha Yu was questioned if Raymond's nomination pose a big treat to him, he said, "Not threatening, this time it's not a one on one competition, even if we didn't have Raymond Lam it doesn't mean that I will definitely get the award, one died out there will be others. Each nomination is very powerful.

2008 TVB 41st Anniversary Awards Dinner Party
Ha Yu and Raymond Lam: Friends or Foes?

Raymond admit that he has looked at the polls online, and he appeared to be leading, but is not convinced that the results will remain that way. He felt that every nominee is strong and is a "rival". Clarifying about the dinner that he supposedly treat TVB executives to in order to guarantee his win, Raymond said, "Oh its related to it? Aiya, I didn't even talk about it and I already had the dinner!" Raymond further explained that he dinner was to discuss his work schedule and there's nothing more about the simple dinner.

Lee Si Kei, a strong contender for the TV Queen award, said TVB should have cheaper dinner parties so that artistes can save money and use those spare cash for advertisements to garner votes.

TVB Anniversary Awards, Strong Contestants for TV Queen

TVB's 41st Anniversary Awards is fast approaching. This year, there are 10 nominees for the Best Actress Award. All the three main leads from Moonlight Resonance - Lee Si Kei, Susanna Kwan, Michelle Yim are among the nominees. Their roles in Moonlight Resonance are all TV Queen material.

2008 TVB 41st Anniversary Awards Best Actress Nominee

The Best Actress Award category sees some tough fight. The three Moonlight Resonance leading ladies are expected to face tough competition from Liza Wang (War of in-laws 2) and Charmaine Sheh (Forensic Heroes 2). Other nominees in this category include Nancy Sit in The Silver Chamber of Sorrows, Shereen Tang in Your Class or Mine, Linda Chung in A Journey Called Life, Sonija Kwok in D.I.E. and Kate Tsui in Speech of Silence.

Lee Si Kei avoided naming her toughest competitor for the TV Queen award, but named her choice for TV King - Ha Yu! Lee Si Kei said, "Ha Yu acted his role out really well. As for Moses Chan, he put in a lot of effort for his role in "Moonlight Resonance". When I first looked at the script, his role didn't seem very unique. He also asked me for advice on how he should act out his role. In the end, he was able to act out his character very well, and brought life to it. Raymond Lam's role is also good, as well as the other male leads, so competition is very tight!"

Gigi Lai's contract frozen, not terminated

Following the announcement from Gigi Lai of her intention to retire, TVB Executive, Stephen Chan said he accepts, understands and respects the reason Gigi wants to retire from the entertainment industry. However, he will wait for her return and strongly believes that there is still room for future collaboration. It is understood that the remainder of Gigi's contract with TVB will not be terminated but instead temporarily frozen. This means to say that should one day Gigi wishes to return, she has an obligation to fulfill the remainder of her contract with TVB.

Gigi's fellow co-stars in The Gem of Life, all pledge their support and understanding. Ada Choi said, "As long as Gigi is happy, I’m happy, I feel it is a pity, but I am grateful to have collaborated with her in the past two TVB series. We are good sisters, she will not feel lonely, those who love her will always be with her." Lee Si Kei is shocked to hear Gigi's announcement and praised Gigi for being a rare girl who takes such good care of her family. Another celebration for Moonlight Resonance

... Really? Another celebration? When will these guys stop? But I suppose when a series is that good, there's every reason to celebrate!

TVB Executive, Stephen Chan treated the cast to a dinner at Tsim Sha Tsui and the dinner bill was apparently a 6-figure sum! Over 80 people turned up for dinner, including the main cast - Ha Yu, Raymond Lam, Moses Chan, Susanna Kwan, Lee Si Kei, Lee Heung Kam and Tavia Yeung and other staff who worked behind the scenes.

Michelle Yim was questioned about the condition of her boyfriend, Wan Chi Keung, but Michelle assured everyone that he is fine. She asked that everyone gives him some space and thanked everyone for their concern.

Ha Yu went to the dinner straight from the airport as he has just returned from Canada. Ha Yu has confidence in himself for the TV King award, but is not sure if he will win it. When asked if Raymond Lam was his biggest competitor, he said that each of them are good actors and have their own strengths.

Louise Lee Si Kei and Raymond Lam

Lately there were also many reports that Raymond Lam's chances of winning the TV King award is in jeopardy because he was constantly late for filming and liked to play games console on the set. It was also reported that Lee Si Kei has complained about Raymond. However, Lee Si Kei and Raymond both cleared the air at the dinner. Raymond explained,"When filming I had discussed this, Louise has also made it clear. Our relationship is very good." Lee Si Kei agreed, saying that she communicate with Raymond over the phone. She also felt that Raymond will win the TV King award and praised the role he played.

Lee Si Kei's rebuttal

Lee Si KeiRemember the story where Nancy Sit denies having a rift with Lee Si Kei? Well, this is what Lee Si Kei has to say, when she was asked by reporters at the Busan and Tokyo Film Festival wrap-up party: "I don't want to respond to any made up news, I don't want to fall into their traps and help them promote it. The company nominates the artistes for the awards and the audience will choose who they like the most. It's not up to us. You cannot win awards by fighting over them."

Lee Si Kei also mentioned that she doesn't mind if she's not the winner this year, what 's more important is getting to attend the award ceremony. She also praised the performances of fellow castmates; Moses Chan, Tavia Yeung, Fala Chen and Ha Yu.

Nancy Sit denies being on bad terms with Lee Si Kei

But Nancy Sit quashed the rumours and told reporters that she has just interviewed Lee Si Kei for her radio show last Friday. Everything is well between them.

Nancy said that Lee Si Kei and her share many similarities, both of them had faced unfortunate events which has made them stronger after surviving the incidences.

Both Lee Si Kei and Nancy will be vying for this year's TV Queen award. Lee Si Kei displays a brilliant performance for Moonlight Resonance while Nancy is banking on her role in The Silver Chamber of Sorrows. Nancy also shared that she will only film one series per year and never thought about winning awards.

When asked who does she think deserves to win this year, Nancy revealed a few names - Michelle Yim, Lee Si Kei, Susanna Kwan. She also praised Christine Ng, her co star in The Silver Chamber of Sorrows, for her good performance.
