Anniversary Series lack oomph!

Last week is not a good week for TVB dramas, in general. It's latest grand production, The Gem of Life, fell 3 points for its ratings for the second week of airing, averaging at 28 points. It's other Anniversary Series, When Easterly Showers Fall on the Sunny West (helmed by Liza Wang, Charmaine Sheh and Joe Ma) also failed to shine, averaging at 26 points.

Hopefully these 2 dramas will fare better in the coming weeks. I, personally have not watched When Easterly Showers Fall on the Sunny West but I caught the first 8 episodes of The Gem of Life. Somehow there wasn't any engaging scenes/plot that is making me want more of the show. The first 8 episodes are just laying down the foundation for more things to come, like an introduction. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the series, just not at a maddening pace. Maybe the plot is moving slowly and smoothly, after all there will be 82 episodes.

Have you been watching? Which anniversary drama do you prefer?

TGOl sounds like a slow paced storyline and Sunnywest sounds .. :/ But anyways, I wanted to ask you if it's okay for me to use one paragraph of yours with credit. I did this before but wanted to make sure because i read your disclaimer (just now) xD. I didn't understand a bit in LOS and couldn't explain it but then remembered you make LOS summaries too so I looked for your one. Yea, it's confusing xD but here:

The bit where it says TVB review. :)

I watched the first 6 episodes of GOL and I really like it :D Probably cause I've waited for it for AGES and I'm a bit biased in supporting it :D But I reckon its good :D It hasn't got 'spectacular' moments all the time like some other popular drama which I didn't like as much (Guess which one...) and I think that's what makes it good cause its pacing itself. But I do hope that it does pick up the pace a bit later.

However, right now I think its really exciting, especially Ada's storyline cause man Ada is such a good actress. I was tearing up during her husband's 'tiu sui' part.

I like both actually but lean more towards gem of life mainly because of the actors that I prefer to watch - I like watching Ada Choi's scenes the most amongst the 3 sisters. bowie lam is pretty engaging as well (i'm usually not a fan of his)..so far yes, I'm up to epi 15 and I still feel that it's still the intro mode - but this is a long series, so will probably need more time to develop a 'real opinion'..definitely will continue watching though..

as for the other one, it's also not bad but I think it's hard to compare these 2 series..Charmaine is as usual..but her singing really needs some improvement..I thought Joe Ma sang better than her in their duet..

I'm sure Gem of Life will pick up the pace, I just hope that it will be soon. The introduction part can be a little slow at times but I guess they need more episodes as they have such a huge cast. I'm still trying to figure out who's related to whom, either by blood or otherwise.
